We were introduced a couple of years ago to the Boxford Group, which is a multi-sector/generation business including leisure, fruit farming and packing enterprises, by Nick Holmes of Chavereys. Like many private family-owned businesses, the passing of time creates the need for the business to continue to grow whilst being passed down between the generations. This brings with it, both opportunity and challenges, especially where those involved may wear multiple hats as owners, employees, and/or family members.
We were delighted that Hugh agreed to join the Boxford Group Board as our Non Exec Chairman. Since that time, he has very ably steered us through a change in the structure of our shareholding and new ways of working and liaising with family members. He has strategically advised us on various acquisitions and expansions. He always gives us a clear direction on the various opportunities that we have had and his advice has been invaluable, particularly with his knowledge of land, and family estates. He is always available to support us to look at any new initiatives, where time is of the essence and he presents us with options that only his knowledge and expertise allows him to do. He also provides a good sounding board with objective advice for both management executives and directors alike.
